In an effort to bring thoughtful, original, and creative projects to light, Jaymes Thompson founded MoDean Productions, a film company with a mission to make unique, smile-producing, head scratching quality films.

This grass roots production company started humbly with a High 8mm video short entitled "Color Me Scarlett." Next came the acclaimed dark DV comedy short "Cake," and the soon-to-be-released 35mm short dramedy "Fruitcake." With lots of hard work and dedication, MoDean Productions progressively continues to snowball with more ambitious and high-end productions. We are now actively searching to generate financing to fund our first feature length film.

Who is MoDean? The name was inspired by the B52’s song “Is That You, Moe Dean?” MoDean represents a cool cat who has been abducted by aliens and then returned to Earth five hundred years later, only to find that he just doesn’t fit in. We here at MoDean Productions can relate.

Our two most recent projects, "Cake" and "Fruitcake," seem to revolve around baked goods. At first, it seemed an odd but meaningless coincidence, but upon further investigation, we found it to be not so random. Over the holidays, Jaymes transferred old lost family slides into a couple of photo albums. The albums documented wonderful and not so wonderful family moments from the time of Jaymes' parents' wedding in 1959 up until the swinging good times of the 80's. What was apparent is that most of the best pictures developed revolved around a cake. Happy, embarrassed, and delighted faces were always present around the homemade cake. Granted, cake does not make an occasion, but it does serve as a marker for the milestones, accomplishments, and sheer celebrations that hopefully come oftentimes in all of our lives. With that energy and sentiment behind us, it's now easy to see why these simple baked goods have come to the forefront of our last two endeavors. Ironically, at our celebrations for these two wonderful films, we served cake.
